Cupping
Using a vacuum cup is a traditional technique used in various cultures including Chinese traditional medicine. It involves placing vacuum cups on the skin. Vacuum is created either with a pump or with a heat source. It lifts the superficial layer of the skin and thereby stimulates blood circulation in the area. It reduces muscle spasms and stimulates healing.
Cupping generally feels relaxing and can be received as a form of massage, especially when the technique of “sliding cups” is used.
Although Cupping is a safe technique, it leaves some “suction marks” or bruises on the body that come because small capillaries under the skin’s surface burst in the process.
These marks disappear even after a few days. However, it is important to report to friends/family or school that they have come because of cupping and not a violent attack.
It is also important to assess when you would like to receive cupping if you are going to the swimming pool or need a summer dress that can show the potential affected areas.
